Capital of Kingdom of Marwar --Jodhpur The Blue City In Thar Desert .
Capital of Kingdom of Marwar Jodhpur also known as the blue city of Rajasthan .Its 15 Century Mehrangarh Fort is worth a visit and now it is a museum which has many interesting things to see of the Kings of marwar .It is also known for its furniture industry , handicrafts , glass bangles , cutlery , carpets and marble goods . Not to forget about the cuisine .
Mehrangarh Fort covers a huge area approx 1200 acres . Its location is in very beautiful surroundings on the hilltop which makes it unique .It was made by ruler Rao Jodha . To be able to really enjoy the whole setting it is important to take a local guide we had taken one .we entered through the jaypoli gate .The guide will show you the beautiful MotiMahal , Phool Mahal . Daulat Khana and sheesh mahal are just out of the place and worth seeing .Since it a museum now there are many other artifacts to see.
Umaid Bhavan palace is where the royalties are staying . Half portion has been converted to five star property and one can easily book rooms and stay and feel the royal palace . otherwise we visited it in the night by paying extra fees and which gets adjusted in the food and drinks .There you get to see a lot of vintage cars also .
There are many temples some of them are on the hill top and can be accessed when we were driving up to the fort .Jaswant Thada also enroute to the fort .it is made in white marble. Is very neat and clean area with a beautiful view .
Clock Tower area which has the flea market and nice eating places . Do not fortget to try out the onion Kachori which have a lot of chilies . After which must try out their sweet lassie flavoured . which will make up for the lunch itself .In the evening near clock towers itself we had dinner at a roof top restaurant clock tower Haveli .
This clock tower area has lot of handicrafts shops which are very cheap and lot of good bargaining .Nice bangle shops are also there . Lot of items made of camel leather are also available like the jackets , bags etc it is a shoppers paradise .
