1500 million years ago --Karlu Karlu /Devils Marble NT Australia
1500 Million years ago these geological wonders started .These granite impressive boulders defy gravity.These are worth seeing and admiring . These are in the Conservation Reserve and part of the protected area in the Northern Territory of Australia about 400 kms from Alice spring .
On the last day of our tour from Darwin to Alice spring this was the second last halt before we reach Alice spring .By now we had covered some 1200kms of the stuart Highway . The nearest settlement to Karlu Karlu is the Wauchope about 9 kms from this reserve .It is 105 kms south of the Tennant Creek .
It is of great importance to the Aboriginal people and is considered as the scared site same as Indian Temples or the churches of the west .we are expected not to be climbed. There are many dreaming stories which have been passed on from generation about these Karlu Karlu .These are also called Devils Marbles .Karlu Karlu translates to round boulders .
These granite stones are huge and well rounded . They are automatically cut into two symmetrical peaces very smoothly without any abrasions on the surfaces that is what miracle you see there .Some of the rounded stones huge in sizes are so precariously balanced that you feel scared that they may just roll down . These gigantic boulders have become an internationally recognised symbol of Australia’s Outback and are spectacular when the light of the morning and evening sun highlights their deep red colour .
The rocks are a cooler ,sheltered environment for plants and animals .A place worth the visit to see natures miracle how the rocks are cut on there own by the nature .
